OH HOW I LOVE BROMELIADS

This is my little piece of shady heaven.

I started a few years ago trying to get assorted moss, ferns and ground covers under this pear tree.

Being selective changed and now I am just happy if they are happy.

Sometimes I use this spot as my final resting place
for tender sickly plants, it gets decent shade and regular water.

While in Tampa 3 years ago I was able to pick up
several wonderful Bromeliads.
When the sun gets to hot they love having part shade.

The pop of color is so refreshing and this spot always seems a few degrees cooler.   Even if it is my imagination.

If you have never tried Bromeliads check them out.

This spot is always so interesting, lots of insects so that means the birds
flock to it and the birdbath.

This is Alice, broken she may be but she insist
on holding court.

She keeps watch over everything and is always on alert for the
white rabbit.  She has a real
fear about holes in the ground.

Remember my faithful Resurrection Fern?

I am always on the look out for toadstools or muchrooms
to tuck in here and there.

I keep telling myself I want to make some
from the peat and cement receipe.
Oh well, there is always next spring.

Don't you think this looks like a place
where fairy's would play?   I like to think so.

Do you have a special place in your garden
where fairies live?

Promise me you will try a Bromeliad?

But don't buy the grocery store ones
check out your Botanical Garden or
Garden Shops.

I have saved the best for last.

Moss, Moss, Moss isn't it wonderful?
I love when it gathers on
rocks and pots

I can't resist rocks I have collected them for years.

The marker is a reproduction of a garden marker
in Williamsburg.

It has been a few weeks since I have posted, I feel like
Chatty Kathy.

My computer has been down, oh how I missed you all.

Stay cool and blessings to you all,
my prayers are with you folks along the
eastern coast.   Kathy

  1. Well, it's been awhile! So chat away and catch us all up. I love the shade gardens. Little cozy retreats for the fairy critters. Especially those with moss. I'm trying to figure out how to sneak some rocks to OK with me...
