Off to Work I Go

I am very blessed to be able to work

part-time for The Visitation Monastery.

The Visitation order is a cloister order committed to prayer

and is characterized by a spirit of humility and gentleness. 

These daughters of the Gospel, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, live a life "hidden with Christ in God."

The Visitation Monastery was built in 1832, very much inspired by the french who founded the order. 

This is a peek of the roof line, of one of the buildings now serving as a religious gift shop on the property.  The terra cotta Griffin watches over the property.

There is a peace you feel when you enter through the gates on

the property and you pray you can take it with you when you depart.

She is busy preparing lovely pillows and such for 

"A Tiny Cottage on Grand" Etsy shop which hopefully will be

launched soon very soon.



Today was spent photographing antique and vintage items for

our ETSY shop.

These are just some of my many friends that I have loved

dearly for decades. 

My tiny cottage is packed full  

so now it is time to scale down my collection 

Hope you enjoy a little peek at a few of my needful things before

their posted on Etsy.

I attended an Estate sale this past weekend and purchased lots of

needful things for the shop.   The homeowner was 91

and she never married, she traveled the world, worked for the city

and lived in a fabulous old estate. I purchased several

of her books which opened a window into her life.

Lovely poetry books signed by her many admirers.

Summer Cloche Party

  I fell in love with cloches in the early 80's, when visiting England, they were in every garden and shop.

 There was a time when
they were not as easily available here in the south. 
I think the first one I bought was
in Nashville at the Heart of Country show in the early 90's and from then on out I was in love.

I love to use them in the garden and especially bringing them inside with plants.

They are a great low maintenance way to enjoy plants    for a few weeks indoors.

As you can tell lots of condensation builds up so

you have be able to prop the

top open just a little.

They're fun to decorate with, showcase

your collection, use them for

entertaining but most of

all they look great

grouped together.

NOT SO FRESH FLOWERS

   What do you do when your flowers are fading,petals are shedding and you see life leaving them? As a final effort this arrangement was made

up of a few seperate ones. Yes I can see only 1 Oak Leaf Hydrangea, I just could't resist.

At the cost of fresh flowers one must be creative.

1.  Change water daily (OK every few days).

2.  Cut a little stem off each time, in hopes they may drink a little more.

3.  At the very end, try the trusty low compact arrangement. Cut flower stem mostly off, stick in

wet oasis and arrange a compact form. 

This will get you another day or two.



I love flowers but usually I am not a Carnation type gal but these were free. 

Free is Good. Enough with the dead flowers.

Doesn't it just drive you crazy when you spend valuable time looking, and looking for the one thing that you just have to have?

Naturally it is only used once a year but you have

to find it.  Because it is time for the

annual 4th of July arrangement.

I will be out early tomorrow to buy flowers.
