ANTIQUE SAMPLERS WARM MY HEART

Do all my post start out with I Love.....?

 This love fest will feature
some of my antique samplers that I have recently displayed
in my one and only bath.

What samplers in a bathroom, is she crazy?
Yes, I probably am but trust me it isn't
because of the samplers.

I believe the treasures we dearly
love should be enjoyed and out in view
for us to treasure.

Framed in lovely birdseye maple, it just
sets off the beauty of the samplers.
As you can see they are from the
early 1900's.

All three were purchased in different years from a great antique show, "Heart of Country",
some 25 years ago.
Samples of needlework from boarding schools for proper ladies.
The girls were young so it was a good way to teach them the alphabet and stitches at the same time.
As you can see I some didn't make the best grade.

I never tire of them but since I do live in a tiny cottage and every
wall is taken I just had to hang them in the bathroom.

You have to think outside the box in a tiny space.

  4. Oh how I love old, very old samplers. I used to do a lot of crewel, embroidery and cross stitch when my eyes were better and have made some of these, but only have one left that I made. Thanks for sharing.

  7. I absolutely love those sweet samplers. I only have enough room in my life for so many hobbies and that one had to be dropped along the way ... so thanks for letting me enjoy it vicariously.

  13. I think they look lovely displayed in your bathroom, Kathy! And living in a tiny cottage myself, I agree...sometimes, you just have to think (and decorate) outside the box. ;)

Thanks for linking to Time Travel Thursday. Hope to see you again this week.

  16. The samplers are beautiful pieces of history, and what's wrong with displaying them wherever you wish? You're right- when you have such treasures, you should enjoy them.

  17. These are beautiful, Kathy! I love to see art in bathrooms. They are just another room that we spend a fair amount of time in, so they should be pretty, too!

  18. I've always been fond of samplers but have never bought any. This spring, when we were in England, we found one that had the same name as our daughter (but done in the early 1800s) -- how I wanted that but it was almost $500 and I really couldn't justify that!

I must admit I yearn for them and yours are so neat -- love the colors.

As to the bathroom -- I think that's a great place -- great wall space and usually more people see that room than other rooms!

  20. Gorgeous display Kathy!! I ADORE old samplers - in fact, the older the better - but the redwork ones from the turn of the century are truly precious....Sorry I've been absent so long - and truly appreciate your visits to my blog....I'm just having a heck of a time figuring out this "balance" thing....Hope you will forgive me.
